Spotlight on Money . . .
THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT
Headed by George Mattos, Vice President and Treasurer of Soulé, the Finance Department serves as a nerve center for the company. It records and reports the company's operations such as paying employees, issuing invoices for company products, handling insurance and tax matters. These are just some of the activities carried on by about 50 employees in 5 offices.
Finance activities are arranged by function into three departments.
The Accounting Department is headed by Don Malech in San Francisco and Don Lee in Los Angeles.
Other Accounting Department heads include Ray Reissner in Portland and Vern Anderson in Seattle. At the mill George Thomas serves as the Cost Accountant and reports to Don Lee.
The Credit Department is headed by Wilson Ringer, General Credit Manager, who is located at the San Francisco office. He is assisted by Byron Berg in Los Angeles. Their responsibilities are to approve credit and collect all monies due the company.
The Data Processing Center in Los Angeles comes under the direction of Tom Kelly, Data Processing Supervisor who reports to Don Lee. The majority of the statistical work done at this center is for the Accounting Department, however, every division of the company uses the service of this department.

A veteran of over 20 years with Soulé, he started with the Soulé Equipment Company in Oakland and later became the Soulé Steel Chief Accountant and then Controller. He was elected Vice President and Treasurer in 1957 and a Company Director in 1959. He is married, has four children and is well known as "The Old Pro" for his weekend golfing.*

SOULÉ SKYROOM
Several months ago the San Francisco cafeteria, operated by Manning's, Inc. changed over to a smorgasbord operation which has proved very popular with the employees. Then, to complete the face lifting job, the cafeteria was redecorated. Venetian blinds were added to cut the glare from the windows and bright paint and flowers have helped to provide an attractive touch.

New Graduates Join Soulé

Each of the three men in the picture above has just completed a two year course in Reinforcing Steel Detailing given by the Los Angeles Trade Technical College.
After graduation in June they went to work using their new skills at Soulé. Don Blume and Al Parrett are now Rebar Detailers and Dexter Peterson is a Rebar Job Foreman.
NAMES IN THE NEWS
Photo: Craig Carpenter was recently elected Vice President-Reinforcing Division and member of the Board of Directors. His former title was General Manager of the Reinforcing Division. Previous to that he served as Assistant General Sales Manager. Earlier he was Manager of the Soulé office in Washington, D.C.
John Rogachenko has joined Soulé as the new Los Angeles Safety Director. Previously he served as safety engineer for an insurance company.
Janice Hubis, R. N. is the new Industrial Nurse in San Francisco. Prior to joining Soulé she was with the Palo Alto Medical Center.
Dick Carmichael who has just joined Soulé is the new Purchasing Agent in Los Angeles.
Bruce Tuck in San Francisco has been promoted to Manager of Southern Area Distributor Sales for the Architectural Products Division.
Robert Ford in San Francisco has been promoted to Manager of Northern Area Distributor Sales for the Architectural Products Division.
Luis Cisneros has been promoted to Production Foreman at the Los Angeles plant and is responsible for all plant fabrication.
Daryl Gaertner is a Sales Trainee for the Commodity Products Division in Los Angeles.
Jim Peek has been assigned to Supervisor of Scrap Purchasing at the mill along with his regular duties as Mill Purchasing Agent.
Del Garner in San Francisco has been promoted to Fabricating Supervisor, Architectural Products Division.
Ron Held in San Francisco has been promoted to Manager of Inventory Control for the Purchasing Department reporting to George Ford, Vice President—Purchasing.
MILLION DOLLAR MEN HONORED

A Soulé Steel Structures Dealer and three members of the Steel Structures Division were honored recently at an awards luncheon held in San Francisco.
Bill Coppedge, President of Modern Steel Structures in Modesto received the Dealer of the Year Award plaque and an engraved pen and pencil set. Coppedge was honored for selling more Soulé buildings than any other dealer in 1965.
Howard Rumrey, Manager Special Projects, Bob Weyand, Southwest Regional Sales Manager, and Roger Benton, Sales Engineer in Seattle received pen and pencil sets and plaques making them members of the Soulé Million Dollar Club. Each man has sold over a million dollars worth of Soulé buildings in one year.

Soulé Job of the Month
A new office building is going up on Wilshire Boulevard next to Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
The Soulé curtain wall on the new building has a unique natural gold look due to the gold dye applied to the aluminum mullions by Soulé.
The contract awarded to Soulé for the curtain wall on the job amounted to about a quarter of a million dollars. In addition, Soulé will supply items such as door frames, doors and store fronts.
Architectural Productions Division assigned Jack Pickner as Project Manager with Harry Durr as Project Engineer.
BELLINA ATTENDS PLASTERAMA

John Bellina, Metal Lath Regional Sales Manager for the Commodity Products Division, San Francisco, manned a Soulé display recently at a seminar on building products held in Fresno.
The seminar was named the "Plasterama" by its sponsor, the M. E. Summers Company, a Fresno lathing and plastering contractor. About 30 manufacturers of building products exhibited their wares.
Bellina showed samples of Soulé lathing, plastering and dry wall products to approximately 200 architects and engineers.

SALT LAKE CITY REPORT
Opened in 1963, the Soulé Salt Lake City office was added to serve as another arm of the ever expanding Reinforcing Division. At that time the staff consisted of 3 men.
Today, the staff has grown to seven and, directed by Arnold Dunyon, District Sales Manager, they serve the approximate area of Utah and part of Idaho and Nevada with Soulé reinforcing steel.

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of John Jerome.
A member of the Maintenance Department in the San Francisco plant, he had been with Soulé for 13 years.

The most carefully planned safety program would not prevent a single injury if everyone didn't use his own KNOW-HOW and follow the safe procedures and the rules of safety that have been developed by experience.
No one can guarantee your safety but you. No one can fully protect you from injury on the job or off. It's up to you to use your KNOW-HOW to observe all the safety rules—use safe work procedures and to do your job the safe way.
