YOUR SAFETY DEPARTMENT
One of the prime objectives of your Company is to provide a safe and efficient place to work. As maximum assurance toward this goal we have an established Safety Department dedicated to accident prevention. Your safety is our first concern.
Our Safety Department is staffed by two full time Safety Engineers with a vast knowledge of safety engineering. Mr. Mike Mickel, our Safety Director, is headquartered in San Francisco and Mr. John Rogachenko, Safety Manager, maintains his office in Los Angeles. These gentlemen carry out our extensive safety program ably assisted by Safety Committees.
To keep abreast of safety developments our engineers are constantly reviewing new techniques, equipment and procedures to make your job safer. Regular management meetings are held to review our safety program and a constant up to the minute reporting procedure keeps safety statistics in review. In addition, applicable safety rules and regulations must be adhered to and numerous records must be maintained. Plant and field safety inspections are a constant part of our program. The job of making things safe for you is a big one. However, with all of the efforts of management we feel the best accident prevention is — you. We know that no one wants to be injured and all of our efforts are directed to helping you work safely. Safety is a cooperative effort and everyone must do their part. Since we recognize that accidents are caused we also know they are preventable. We continue to stress safety in our daily operations to keep you alert and alive. It only takes a careless moment to lose a life, or injure a finger or hand, therefore we can't let down our guard. As you do your work ask yourself this question "Is this the safe way?" and in no time at all safety will be a part of your work operation. Then we need to think a little bit about the other fellow which poses another question "Is this safe for my fellow worker?" or "Am I endangering someone else?". If there is danger involved make sure you do it the safe way. Remember, your family is depending upon you, don't let them down by a disabling injury.
To the many employees throughout the Company serving on our numerous safety committees we extend our sincere appreciation for your assistance. Many accidents and potential injuries have been prevented because of your diligent service for the cause of safety. The management thanks you.
We wish to assure you that management will continue to provide a safe and efficient place to work and your cooperation in working safely will make it possible to attain our mutual goal of no suffering or hardships because of accidents.

Here are the guys who beat everyone in the company for safety last year. And the amazing thing is they did it while working on some of the toughest jobs. Watkins Named Chief Accountant
Donald C. Watkins was named Chief Accountant for Soulé Steel Company in March, 1967. In this capacity, Mr. Watkins will supervise all the accounting for the Company in addition to his duties as Controller. He reports to George Mattos, Vice-President and Treasurer. Mr. Watkins was recently elected First Vice-President of the National Association of Accountants, Oakland-East Bay Chapter, for the year 1967-68.

Howard Overbaugh as Sales Engineer in the Southwest Region, working out of Los Angeles.
Anton D. Becchetti as Dealer Representative in the Arizona Territory, working out of Phoenix.
Ed Hampton to Coordinator in the Seattle office.
Richard Taylor as Construction Advisor.
Mrs. Carolyn Bryant as Advertising Supervisor.
Architectural Products Division
Milton Meyer is the new Project Manager for the Division.
Harry Durr is promoted to Assistant Engineering Manager for the Division.
Reinforcing Steel Division
Bob Lee promoted to Estimating Supervisor, Los Angeles.
Don Blume is appointed a pivot salesman for the Los Angeles office.
Morris Lamar is appointed Dominguez Fabrication Superintendent.
Commodity Products Division
Richard Scott is appointed a metal lath salesman for the Southwest Region.
It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of Roy Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs was a member of the Maintenance Department in the San Francisco plant for 23 years.
It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of Al Firpo. Mr. Firpo was formerly Superintendent of the Structural Department in the San Francisco plant.

Dog House Dept.
School Board elections were held recently for two open seats on the Fairfax Elementary District Board. One of the four candidates running for the post was Mrs. Harry Durr, whose husband works in the S. F. Engineering Department of the Architectural Products Division. Mrs. Durr lost by one vote; the deciding vote was cast by her husband, who voted for her *and* one of her opponents. When we last heard from him, Mr. Durr was looking for a quiet place to stay for awhile.
