US ARMED FORCES BENEFIT FROM SOULÉ PRODUCTS
A Giant Freezer for the Far East Our armed forces face a continuing problem of supplying food to overseas bases. In some areas, the local products are unfit for consumption by all foreign users due to the presence of toxic substances and certain bacteria found naturally in those areas. In other places, our large food requirements cannot be supplied from the meager local production. Our service personnel must usually depend on being supplied all their needs from home – a costly and burdensome operation. One of our largest such overseas bases is CLARK FIELD near Manilla, Philippine Islands. At Clark Field the servicemen and their dependents, until recently, had to depend on powdered milk and stateside production of other kindred products. Now they can enjoy fresh wholesome milk and ice cream, in plentiful supply, due to a unique new facility. A complex of five Soulé structures was used to form the building. Temp-Con® wall and roof panels were used in the construction. Sold by Soulé Philippine Representative Mr. L.V. Casteley (father of Jim Casteley) in January of this year, the plant offers about 12,000 square
feet of floor space. Shown here nearing completion, the facility features -20°F freezer rooms, +35°F cold rooms, and +60°F processing or work rooms. The freezer and cold rooms utilized Temp-Con 400 panels for walls and roof, while the processing rooms used Temp-Con 200 panels for the walls, and Temp-Con 175 panels for the roofs. buildings were designed and detailed in San Francisco by Soule Building Division personnel, detailers Tarco Diaz and Roy Englehardt, under the direction of William Bjorkquist, Special Projects Supervisor. The San Francisco part of the sales effort was handled by Jim Casteleyn, Assistant Manager, International Sales. Soule's portion of this job amounted to over $100,000.00.
This is the first Soule freezer complex in the Far East. It is hoped that this installation will stimulate more interest in similar facilities in this and other areas. The unique design and application of Soule Temp-Con products will make this structure a candidate for the 1969 Soule International Building of the Year.

SOULÉ DEALER OF THE MONTH
An interested attendee at the February 14 Soulé Buildings Dealer Meeting was William B. (Bill) Coppedge, President and owner of Modern Steel Structures, Inc., of Modesto, Calif., our Soulé Building "Dealer of the Month". Bill is a former Soulé employee, starting with the company in July, 1957 as Soulé Sales Representative in the Fresno office, and remaining until 1961. Bill then went to work for Modern Steel Structures, Inc., a company which had become a Soulé Standard Steel Buildings dealer in June, 1958. Bill eventually bought the company from Walter Swenson, its founder, and continues its successful operation with the help of his father, Bill Sr. As Vice-President, and his wife, Donna, as Secretary-Treasurer. In 1966 Modern Steel Structures, Inc. was named "Dealer of the Year" for having sold the most Soulé buildings in 1965.

Names in the News
Pedro Palismo, shop employee at Ventura, is a shear operator and Karate expert. Pedro recently recently received his Black Belt in Karate and teaches the subject. He came to Soulé in February, 1968.

Fred Basconcillo shows the certificate awarded to him in recognition of his long and outstanding contribution to Soule Explorer Post 159.
Arnold Dunyon, a 15 year employee and recently manager of the Salt Lake City Sales District, has moved to Los Angeles as Assistant District Sales Manager, Reinforcing Division.
Herb Covey, after having filled many responsible positions within the Reinforcing Division during the last 11 years, including providing managerial relief, was recently appointed District Sales Manager, Salt Lake City Sales District.
Bill Bristol recently joined the company as Northwest Area Safety Manager. A member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Bill has spent 17 years in the field of safety.

Gary Asmussen, who has been with the company since 1964, recently left his position as Senior Salesman in Los Angeles to accept the post of Mid-West Regional Manager, Architectural Products Division. Gary will be located in Chicago.
John Vanderschee was named Project Manager, Architectural Products Division, in June. A Soule man since 1963, one of his most recent projects has been the U.S. Steel Building in New York.
Ed McFarland, formerly Inventory Control Supervisor, was promoted to Operations Planning Supervisor for the Architectural Products Division July. Ed has been with Soule since 1951.
Curt Wingert was named Eastern Region Field (New York) Superintendent in July for the Architectural Products Division. Curt is located in the New York area and will be responsible for erection on all jobs in this area.
