Dear Fellow Employees,
Christmas is a family time. It lights up the eyes of young and old alike. The stockings are hung, the cookies baked, the tree decorated; an air of excitement fills the house along with the aroma of special foods. Greetings come in the mail from long-time friends. Laughter rings as presents are opened. Memories trace fondly the joyous years gone by.
There is a special Soulé Steel family that has grown over the past 74 years. We feel a warm gratitude toward each of you who have worked diligently and with dedication.
The greatest family of all is the family of God. That's what Christmas is all about. God, the Father, sent His Son, Jesus Christ, as the most impressive gift of all time. We are invited to become children of the Heavenly Father by faith in His Son. Then the true Christmas spirit instills itself in our lives and homes: love, joy, peace and good will.
My true desire for you and everyone in your family is God's best: a Christmas of blessing and a New Year of joy.

Halloween Costume Party for Carson Reinforcing's Sales Customers
On Friday night, October 26, a Halloween costume party was held on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. This was done to thank all our counter tonnage customers for their patronage during the year.
Everyone really got into the mood of the party as no one was without a costume. In fact, a lot of effort, thought and originality went into the costumes worn.
After appetizers and cocktails, a sit-down prime rib dinner was enjoyed in the Royal Salon and King's View Room overlooking the lights of Long Beach harbor.
The entertainment consisted of a Ghostbusters skit with Lowell Carstensen, George Leitner, Alan Hayden and Glenn Gross "attempting" a break-dance routine to the theme from the movie: coveralls and all. What a sight!
Dance Dimensions were engaged for background music during dinner and dancing after dinner until midnight. Circle and folk dances were used for "getting acquainted" — one way to break the ice with competitors.
After the evening was over, the consensus of opinion was that "a great time was had by all."
For the record...
Luke Hung would like to correct a mistake made in the Fall edition of the Soulé News. He is not a CPA as reported in the article regarding his promotion to Assistant Controller.
In Remembrance of...
**JAMES CHANDLER HORTON**, who died on November 24, 1984.
James joined Soulé on January 2, 1960 and worked for the company as a Furnace Heater for 18 years. He was chief Shop Steward from 1961 to 1978.
In September 1978, he was elected Business Representative of the United Steelworkers of America AFL-CIO local union 2018.
A popular figure with all his co-workers, James will be missed by everyone at Soulé.

Fresno
Lewis Grimes, Shopman, and Kathy Brown were married on September 11, 1984, at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. They spent their two-week honeymoon in Hawaii in October.
Congratulations to Ron and Eva Kurtz (Field Ironworker) on the birth of their new daughter, Sherry Nicole, born on August 9, 1984. Sherry weighed in at 6 lbs. 10 ozs.
John Fain, son of Field Supervisor Robert Fain, Sr., has entered the Marines and is currently stationed at Fort Pendleton, California.
Vacations were a highspot for a few Fresno employees:
Morgan Kirk, son of Shop Foreman Jim Kirk, spent the summer in Alaska working on a game reserve.
Robert Fain, Sr. went to Oklahoma for a week's vacation to visit his family.
Walter and Maryann Heinrichs toured the New England states and Canada for their two weeks' vacation.
Manny Regalado and his wife, Linda, attended his 30th class reunion in Long Beach, California.
Steel Mill Reorganization
There has been a major reorganization of the Maintenance and Engineering functions in the Steel Mill, effective immediately.
Wally Gettman has left the company, and we all wish Wally well in his future endeavors.
Jim Thacker returned to the company on October 15, 1984, as Maintenance Superintendent of the Steel Mill. Bill Talstein was Acting Maintenance Superintendent until Jim's arrival.
Jerry Pilger has been promoted to the position of Chief Engineer. Both Jerry and Jim will report to George Leitner, General Manager.
We wish them success in their new assignments, both of which are critical to the successful operation of the entire Mill.
